Rosaria Butterfield Names Names at Liberty University Convocation

Rosaria Butterfield spoke at Liberty University’s convocation on November 10th, delivering a wonderful testimony of escaping not only sexual wickedness as an unbeliever, but also lies about sexuality after she was saved. It was clear, strong, and uncompromising, yet still found room for compassion and repentance.

But she didn’t just deliver her testimony, she went after Christians/ministries who promote compromised positions on human sexuality and marriage. She called out Revoice, Preston Sprinkle and his Exiles in Babylon Conference, and CRU. (the shell of what used to be Campus Crusade for Christ)

Cru has recently asked Preston Sprinkle to oversee its sexuality curriculum and recommends Sprinkle’s Center for Faith, Sexuality, and Gender as a trusted resource to its staff. Cru has already released its sexuality curriculum, Compassionate and Faithful, and campus team leaders will take their entire staff through it this fall semester. This is something we will be covering in a future article. For now, watch this segment of Rosaria’s speech.

The beautiful thing about how she called them out, was that she was hard and firm with her condemnation, but pointed to the real possibility of repentance. The line “we don’t throw people away, but without repentance, we don’t trust them” nails the attitude we must have as Christians, specifically in the world of calling out error.

The goal and hope of calling out error, of naming names, is not to tear down, but to call to repentance. To see this so clearly laid out on the stage of the world’s largest Christian university, one that has not always been perfectly clear about where it stands, is refreshing. This is not to say Liberty University is “woke,” but simply that the level of bold clarity is a good thing to see, and hopefully encouraged. It can be assumed that something as “controversial” as naming names is not seen as a “wise move” by all the students, the staff and faculty, or even by donors. It’s just not a popular thing to do, so again, it’s refreshing to see it happen.

We encourage you to watch the entire the entire speech by Rosaria, as it’s a wonderful testimony of the wonderful mercy of Christ, mixed with the boldness of a repentant Christian standing firmly on the world of God. Though if you’re just looking for the point where pulled the clip, then start at 1:02:00.

Final note, Rosaria’s journey has been a long one, and simply Googling “Rosaria Butterfield” will provide many results that contradict the truth she now declares.

  1. Truth is so freeing. Truth means light, light means Jesus. Rosaria Butterfield should receive applause for her public stance. Think of how many people that choose to be gay because they think it’s easier route than dealing with the difficulties of life. Or all the homosexuals that realize they made a mistake but thinks it’s too hard to admit it or too hard to completely reverse their life style. More universities need to give this woman the podium. She has courage to admit her mistakes, so many don’t. She can help others do the same. These poor soles that are living a lie don’t realize is that so many more will respect them for escaping their matrix, more than any respect they receive for living a false life style. When you live in a lie, your never happy, which is one reason there is so much drug abuse and suicide among homosexuals. RB, I applaud you!

    1. People are more interested in lies, even if those lies cost them more in the long run. The disgusting thing right now, is how many Christians are encouraging those lies!
