Church of Xbox Knows Better than Jesus, Claims “Golden Rule” is Inferior to “Platinum Rule”

There are certain stories so ridiculous, that leave a writer to say “How do I make the headline not sound like clickbait?” Microsoft’s Xbox division claiming to have come up with a superior “Platinum Rule” undoubtedly falls into that category. No longer “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” but now “treat others as they’d like to be treated.”

The priests at the church of Xbox have proven that Jesus’ words were faulty and insufficient as they don’t cover situations when “someone might want to be treated differently from you.” For as ridiculous as this is, there is something more sinister going on here than marketing trying too hard. It is not simply that they do not understand the “Golden Rule,” a command of Christ that calls us to avoid hypocrisy and apply God’s law consistently. The “Golden Rule,” properly applied, would create a healthy community. In reality, they want to down God’s law in order to erect a new law of a new god.

Who is the god that the church of Xbox and Microsoft worship? Diversity, equity, and inclusion. In order to accomplish this, Xbox’s “Platinum Rule” shifts the standard of the law from an objective one (i.e. God’s law) and onto the subjective opinion of the other person. No longer is there right or wrong, but only how something makes someone feel. The “Golden Rule” is toxic to DEI, as it uses an objective standard, equally applied to all. That’s not very diverse, equitable, or inclusive. In fact, that sounds downright narrow and restrictive!

The “Golden Rule” says to love your transgender neighbor enough to preach the truth to them.

The “Platinum Rule” says to embrace your neighbor’s chosen identity

What Microsoft and Xbox are pushing, is that we must toss aside the ineffective morality of Christianity, in favor of an anarchic standard of “DEI.” But if there is no truth, and everyone is “right,” then how can society even function? That question was answered in the 19th century by atheist philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, and let’s just say the end goal is not good.

Kyle Whitt and his family reside in beautiful Northern Idaho where he serves his local church by leading college ministry, assisting local planting efforts, and building connections with other local churches. Kyle was formerly involved with church planting in the SBC's North American Mission Board until he removed himself and called out blatantly false teaching about the gospel.

  1. We have to put out 1,000 fires of heresy every day in the church now. This is just one; wanting to sin is sinful. Wanting perverted sex is sin. Being “oriented” that way is just stating that you think sin is OK. How many times have we ALL heard “If being gay is wrong, why did God MAKE ME this way?”
