Woke, Les­bian Athe­ist Declares the Truth Of Romans 1

Con­tro­ver­sial, woke, and les­bian soc­cer play­er, Megan Rapi­noe, has made it into the news for her com­ment after a game end­ing injury that “I’m not a reli­gious per­son or any­thing and if there was a God, like, this is proof that there isn’t. This is f***ed up.”

Many have point­ed out the irony of a per­son that has spent so much time mock­ing God, is now blam­ing God for her get­ting injured. Yet… also claim­ing her get­ting injured is proof God does­n’t exist? This is just con­fus­ing. She wants some­one to blame, so allows God to be real so she can blame Him. Yet she does­n’t want Him to be real, because then she’s respon­si­ble for her sin.

That’s real­ly the crux of this, as it shows how peo­ple know God exists, and know what is right and wrong. Yet they sup­press that truth in unright­eous­ness. (Romans 1:18) She is some­one who has been giv­en up to the lusts of her heart (Romans 1:24) and exchanged the nat­ur­al for the unnat­ur­al. (Romans 1:26)

When injured, her response it to cry out against God, why? Because she, though know­ing God, does not hon­or Him as God, and has had her fool­ish heart dark­ened. (Romans 1:21) She knows He’s there, but does­n’t want to sub­mit to Him, so she has the audac­i­ty to blame Him for her mis­for­tune. What is this mis­for­tune? She fell and got hurt, caus­ing her to miss a soc­cer game. Which is both God’s fault, and proof that there is not God. If that is not the def­i­n­i­tion of “pro­fess­ing to be wise, she’s become a fool” (Romans 1:22) then I don’t know what is.

She wor­ships the crea­ture, and specif­i­cal­ly soc­cer, rather than the Cre­ator. (Romans 1:25) This is not to ignore her wor­ship of her sex­u­al­i­ty, but we’re focus­ing on the fact that she was so upset about miss­ing a soc­cer game, that she blamed some­one she says does­n’t exist. Again, soc­cer, a game, that’s what sparked this. It’s a tremen­dous lev­el of self-absorp­tion and self-wor­ship that she dis­plays, yet she has to have that or else she’d be crushed by the weight of her sin, and the real­i­ty that God exists. It’s her only defense. Yet, when the god of soc­cer and self lets her down, where does she turn? To the true God. But instead of turn­ing to Him for sal­va­tion, it’s to sal­vage her own gods by putting the blame some­where else (blam­ing God) and jus­ti­fy­ing her gods. (claim­ing God does­n’t exist) She, des­per­ate­ly, tries to claim that her gods have con­quered God, all while the god of soc­cer has failed her and the god of her­self has been revealed to be fal­li­ble.

To be blunt, it’s as if Romans 1 is a com­men­tary on this inci­dent, with how much she plays into what God’s Word says. It’s almost as if God’s Word is per­fect, author­i­ta­tive, uni­ver­sal, and absolute truth. And this com­men­tary isn’t about con­dem­na­tion either, for her action have already con­demned her. It’s about mer­cy. Yes, indeed Romans 1 is about mer­cy, because it’s for the rea­son of repen­tance that she, and all who reject God, have been giv­en over to her pas­sions (Romans 1:24,26) so that the law, writ­ten on her heart (Romans 2:15) may work to bring knowl­edge of sin, (Romans 3:20) in order that she might repent and be saved.

I could go on about the con­nec­tion between this small com­ment and Romans 1, and yes, I did start to get into oth­er chap­ters by the end. This is meant to be a quick take on the sit­u­a­tion, not an expan­sive exam­i­na­tion, so we will leave it with one final verse that we can pray Megan heeds:
